
Description of the Project
The current water demand for Nairobi and its satellite towns is 1,060,000 m3/day against a production of 691,039 m3/day, resulting in a supply shortfall of 368,961m3/day. • Potable water demand for the greater Nairobi is growing at a compounded annual growth rate(CAGR) of 5.5%. • Demand is projected to reach 1,660,000 m3/day by the year 2035 • Maragua 4 Dam is projected to supply 120,000 m3 /day which represents 32.5% of the current deficit.
- The project will entails:
i. Earth dam, with a storage capacity of 63.73 million cubic meters;
ii. Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 140,000 m3/d Water; and
iii. Conveyance infrastructure of Raw/Potable pipeline of 10km and 153km respectively - Muranga County, southern part of the county which is about 74km from Nairobi County
- To increase bulk water supply to Nairobi City and Satellite Towns by 120,000m3/day to serve an additional 830,000 people and meet the projected water demand.
- To increase water supply to Murang’a South (Maragua) by 20,000m3/day to serve an additional 170,000 people in Sabasaba, Kabati, Maragua town, Makuyu, Kenol and kaharati areas of Murang’a County
The project is based upon Design, finance, build, operate, maintain & transfer for a period not exceeding 30years
