Description of the Project

The current water demand for Nairobi and its satellite towns is 1,060,000 m3/day against a production of 691,039 m3/day, resulting in a supply shortfall of 368,961m3/day. • Potable water demand for the greater Nairobi is growing at a compounded annual growth rate(CAGR) of 5.5%. • Demand is projected to reach 1,660,000 m3/day by the year 2035 • Maragua 4 Dam is projected to supply 120,000 m3 /day which represents 32.5% of the current deficit.

  1. The project will entails:
    i. Earth dam, with a storage capacity of 63.73 million cubic meters;
    ii. Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 140,000 m3/d Water; and
    iii. Conveyance infrastructure of Raw/Potable pipeline of             10km and 153km respectively
  2. Muranga County, southern part of the county which is about 74km from Nairobi County
  3. To increase bulk water supply to Nairobi City and Satellite Towns by 120,000m3/day to serve an additional 830,000 people and meet the projected water demand.
  4. To increase water supply to Murang’a South (Maragua) by 20,000m3/day to serve an additional 170,000 people in Sabasaba, Kabati, Maragua town, Makuyu, Kenol and kaharati areas of Murang’a County

The project is based upon Design, finance, build, operate, maintain & transfer for a period not exceeding 30years
